A Taste of Tradition

Our chefs cook with passion and pride, serving food that’s all about bold simplicity and heart. Think homemade pies, juicy steaks, vibrant veg with real bite, and puddings that are as good to look at as they are to eat. This is honest food, made with care – often using produce from talented local suppliers. Nothing fancy, just done right. And the drinks? Local brews with a story, wines picked for flavour not the label, and British spirits served with purpose. Cocktails bring a little flair – not flash – and always hit the right note.
Pull up a chair and enjoy the kind of food and drink made to be shared, savoured, and remembered.

Crafted Drinks

At our pub, the drinks are chosen with as much care as the food. Local ales, perfectly kept and full of character. Crisp, coastal whites and robust reds that stand up to hearty dishes. A thoughtful gin and tonic, a warming whisky by the fire. Nothing flashy, just honest, well-balanced flavours that complement the food and reflect the land around you. The kind of drinks you remember, not because they shouted, but because they quietly belonged

Outside Dining

The outdoor dining space is simple, unfussy, and quietly beautiful. Wooden tables catch the afternoon sun, with local florabunda brushing the air with scent. You can hear the soft clink of glasses, the hum of conversation, maybe the faint cry of a gull or blackbird overhead. It’s the kind of spot where a pint of local ale or a crisp glass of white feels just right, and where food tastes better simply because you’re outside, with time to spare and nothing to prove, just watch for the rain.

Seasonal Classics_The bull

Seasonal Classics

Our chefs cook with heart and precision, serving bold, honest plates, juicy steaks, hand-crafted pies, vibrant seasonal vegetables, and desserts that balance beauty with indulgence. Every dish is built around seasonally sourced produce, with local ingredients handled with care to elevate pub classics. Drinks are equally considered: local brews with heritage, wines chosen for flavour over fame, and cocktails crafted without fuss. It’s food and drink made to share, savour, and remember.

A Sunday Tradition

The Sunday roast — an age-old British tradition, reimagined with a playful twist in our pub.

Expect perfectly roasted meats, crisp and golden roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings puffed up like proud old hats, and seasonal vegetables cooked just right. Everything’s brought together with the chef’s rich, glossy gravy and a generous spoonful of comfort.

It’s a meal that feels like a hug from history — familiar, satisfying, and full of flavour, with just enough finesse to keep things interesting. A proper Sunday, done right.

Private Dining & Events

The Bull at Barton Mills doesn’t bother with fancy names for its function spaces, but what you get is practical and rather good. They’ve got areas you can hire for birthdays, weddings, or just a decent get-together. It’s all proper pub charm, oak beams, quirky décor, and plenty of space to sit, eat, and talk without shouting. Nothing too flashy, but it works, which is the whole point.
