Rich In History
Since at least the 16th century a hostelry has stood here, and by 1680 it emerged as a fine coaching inn, complete with a grand carriage archway nestled on the main London to Norwich route. In 1811 its advertisement boasted service to “first families of distinction,” freighting mail and spirits to and from Norwich, Lynn and beyond. Extensions were added in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, inside you’ll still find a fine 17th‑century staircase with turned balusters and historic oak beams. Legend suggests Queen Elizabeth I once rested here during travels with the Earl of Leicester, and later, Princess Victoria and Queen Victoria thereafter paid a visit by carriage. In more recent times, its quirky charm earned it “Britain’s funkiest B&B” by the AA in 2014 . Remarkably, the Bull remains a living slice of centuries old history, blending original structure, stories, and modern warmth.
